The Second Vatican Council, Episode 13: Dignitatis Humanae

Perhaps the single most controversial document of Vatican II, Dignitatis Humanae had ferocious “defenders” to make sure that the heretical notion of error having “rights” would be enshrined in what would seem to the outside world to be a document of the Catholic Church. Critical to understanding how this document came to be was the leading role of the Americans, the Coetus Fathers intervention based on failures in procedure rather than on changes in Church teaching, and the role of Paul VI in the final draft of the document. Fr. Wiltgen also notes a curious attitude that all the Council Fathers had, even the Coetus Fathers, once a document had been approved.
