Work of Human Hands, Episode 2: The Creation of the New Mass

Work of Human Hands, by Father Anthony Cekada

Work of Human Hands, by Father Anthony Cekada

On this episode of Work of Human Hands, we will springboard from chapters 1 and 2 into chapter 3, which discusses the background and the cast of characters involved in the creation of the "New Mass."

We will once again revisit the usual cast of characters: Jungmann, Boyer, and the biggest sinister name in the entire process, that of Archbishop Annibale Bugnini, a freemason and the architect of the destruction of the Roman Rite. We will tie in the building blocks of the experimental Easter Vigil of 1951, Jungmann's "heart's dream" of the reform of the mass, the 1955 Holy Week changes, simplification of rubrics, the 1958 Instructions on Sacred Music, the 1960 Code of Rubrics of John XXIII, the 1963 Vatican II document Sacrosanctum Concilium and the fateful paragraph 50, by which almost any change to the liturgy could be justified.

Join us as author Fr. Anthony Cekada, and host Justin Soeder walk through the background to the destruction of the Tridentine Mass and the introduction of the Novus Ordo in 1969.
